Why Fish the River Ebro?

The River Ebro is the most famous freshwater fishing river in Europe. For UK anglers chasing a genuine monster fish experience, a River Ebro fishing holiday is the trip of a lifetime. The stretch around Caspe and the Mequinenza Reservoir is the most productive section on the entire system — where Wels catfish exceeding 100lb are landed regularly, and fish over 200lb are a realistic target on any given week.

Unlike UK stillwaters where a 30lb catfish is a significant catch, the Ebro produces fish in a completely different class. Spain's warm climate allows fish to feed year-round and grow to extraordinary sizes, creating a self-sustaining population of freshwater giants that simply don't exist anywhere else in Europe at this scale.

Guided River Ebro Fishing Trips

Every guided package gives you a dedicated local guide who knows exactly where fish are holding at different times of year. Your guide handles all the positioning — where to anchor, where to drift, when to move. Your job is to fish. For first-time Ebro visitors this makes an enormous difference to catch rates. For experienced anglers, it unlocks spots and methods that take years to learn independently.

The Caspe Region — Where the Big Fish Live

Not all stretches of the Ebro fish the same. The Caspe region covers some of the deepest and most productive water on the entire river system. Deep holding channels, warm river margins, and a fish population that has had decades to grow undisturbed — this is where the biggest Wels catfish on the Ebro live.

Our guides fish this water every week. They know where catfish stack up in summer heat, where carp feed on autumn mornings, and how rising water after rain pushes fish into predictable feeding lies. That local knowledge is the difference between a good trip and an exceptional one.

When to Book

We fish all year round. Spring (March–May) sees fish becoming active as temperatures rise. Summer brings the best night fishing. Autumn (September–November) is peak catfishing season — fish feeding hard ahead of winter, biggest catches of the year. Winter produces specimen catfish for those who know where to look. The most important factor is booking early — peak weeks fill months in advance.

Common Questions

Do I need experience?

No. Our guides work with all levels — beginners to specimen hunters. They handle setup, positioning, and technique. You just need to be ready to hold on when a big fish runs.

Do I need to bring my own tackle?

No tackle needed. All rods, reels, and rigs provided. Bait is not included but can be arranged when booking — paid on arrival.

What about fishing licences?

Not included in the package. We can arrange Spanish fishing licences for you — paid on arrival. Just let us know when booking.

How big are the fish?

Wels catfish in the Caspe region regularly exceed 100lb. Fish over 200lb are a realistic target. Wild carp run to 40lb+. Personal bests are common on a first Ebro trip.

What are the check-in times?

Check-in is from 3pm. Check-out is 11am. Fishing on arrival and departure days is not permitted unless pre-arranged when booking.
