Why Catfishing in Spain?

Spain is the catfishing capital of Europe, and the River Ebro is where the biggest fish live. Anglers from the UK and across Europe travel to Caspe every year for one reason: the chance to battle a freshwater fish that can exceed 200lb, strip line off a reel, and tow a boat downstream. Catfishing Spain is not just a fishing trip — it's an experience unlike anything available on British or European stillwaters.

Caspe Fishing puts you in the best possible position to catch one. Expert local guides, fully equipped boats, and riverside cabins giving you direct access to the most productive stretches of the Ebro.

🐟
Fish SizeWels catfish regularly exceed 100lb here. In the UK a 40lb catfish is a lifetime catch. On the Ebro it's a warm-up.
☀️
Year-RoundSpain's climate means fish feed in every month. No closed season, no weather windows that shut fishing down completely.
🎣
Expert GuidesLocal knowledge built over years on this exact water. You don't spend days learning the river — your guide already knows it.
🛶
Boat FishingAccess deep mid-river channels where the biggest catfish hold. Boat fishing is the most effective method on the Ebro by far.

What You're Targeting

Wels catfish River Ebro
Primary Target

Wels Catfish

Europe's largest freshwater fish. In the Caspe region, fish over 100lb are landed regularly and 200lb+ is a genuine target on any guided week. Powerful, fast, and unlike anything you'll have encountered in UK fishing.

Secondary Target

Wild Carp

The Ebro holds hard-fighting wild common and mirror carp to 40lb+. Completely different in character to lake carp — powerful river fish that regularly intercept catfishing setups.

Catfishing Spain — Season by Season

Spring (Mar–May)Fish become active as water temperatures climb. Excellent feeding windows — ideal conditions for both catfish and carp sessions.
Summer (Jun–Aug)Prime conditions for night fishing as temperatures peak. Catfish move into feeding patterns after dark — some of the most exciting sessions of the year.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)Peak catfishing season. Fish feed aggressively before winter. The biggest catches of the year consistently come in October and November.
Winter (Dec–Feb)Slower but still productive. Cold water concentrates fish in deep holes. Specimen catfish are targeted by serious anglers who know exactly where to look.

How a Guided Catfishing Trip Works

01
Arrive & Meet Your Guide

Check-in from 3pm into your riverside cabin. Your guide meets you, discusses conditions, and plans your week based on current river levels, temperature, and where the fish are showing.

02
Early Start on the Water

Most sessions start early morning when fish are most active. Your guide knows the best windows — you'll be on the water at the right time, anchored in the right spot.

03
Guided Boat Sessions

One guide, one boat per cabin. The boat gets you over deep channels unreachable from the bank — where the biggest catfish hold up. All tackle is provided and set up for you.

04
The Fight

When a 100lb+ catfish takes in deep water, nothing prepares you for it. Your guide handles the boat while you fight the fish. Powerful runs, sustained resistance, a serious battle.

05
Photos & Careful Release

All fish are weighed, photographed, and returned. Catch and release is standard practice on the Ebro — it's what keeps the river producing trophy fish year after year.

Before you book — what's not included: Fishing licences and day tickets must be arranged separately (we can organise these — paid on arrival). Bait is not supplied but can be pre-ordered when booking, paid on arrival. All other fishing equipment is provided.

Packages & Pricing

Guided catfishing packages start from €425 per person for a 3-night trip (4 anglers, half board). 7-night packages from €475pp. Cabin-only options from €850 per week for those who prefer to fish independently at their own pace.
